Job Description

The Manager, Communications and Network Development, plays a leading role, as a member of the World Law Group’s small “virtual” operating team, in keeping lawyers and other professionals in the WLG’s 57 (and growing) member firms informed about, and connected and engaged with, both the organization and each other. Reporting to the Director of Group Services, and working closely and cooperatively with operating team colleagues, the Manager also promotes the WLG’s services and benefits to members, and assists in promoting the capabilities and quality of member firms to each other – to help facilitate and grow inter-WLG business referrals and collaborative business development initiatives.

This role has two primary areas of responsibility:
1. Creating and/or reviewing many communications to the World Law Group’s member firms worldwide. Key audiences/ constituencies include “Key Contact Partners”, who are the main WLG liaisons with each member firm, as well as member firm managing partners and other firm leaders, chairs and members of the WLG’s global practice and industry groups members, member firm marketing & communications professionals, other WLG committee members and, on a more ad hoc basis, a variety of other individuals among the 18,000+ legal professionals working within member firms worldwide.

“Communications” include a variety of e-newsletters/e-bulletins, announcements, presentations, website content, member surveys, memos, policies, and promotion/information materials for various WLG initiatives (such as its conferences and International Exchange Program). In addition, the successful candidate will often review and edit (for clarity, effectiveness, style, grammar, etc.) materials produced by other staff team members, the WLG Board and WLG Committees (some of whose first language is not English). Some tasks involve directing external service providers, including graphic designers, online service providers, etc. to produce and distribute information.
The Manager, Communications & Network Development also plans and manages the WLG’s limited external marketing initiatives, and assists member firms in their WLG-related marketing efforts.

2. Supporting and developing the WLG’s dozen global Practice & Industry Groups, and other communities of professionals within WLG member firms. Practice & Industry Groups are made up of lawyers from many WLG member firms specializing in various areas of business law (e.g., Corporate/M&A, Intellectual Property, Litigation/Alternative Dispute Resolution, Employment, Energy & Natural Resources). Individual practitioners come together via the WLG’s global groups to develop relationships that encourage referrals, exchange information about legal developments in their fields, work on multinational comparative law guides and other projects. The Manager of Communications & Network Development will assist chairs and other leaders of these groups to identify action plans to accomplish each group’s objectives, plan teleconference or online meetings and actual meetings at the WLG’s semi-annual conferences (preparing agendas and minutes or meeting recaps, arranging and hosting teleconferences, webinars, etc.), and help to identify and manage group projects.

A detailed job description is available.
